VoiceLAB Re-sources. Immersion. Instinct. Improvisation is an in-depth voice laboratory for those who sing or work with the voice professionally within the performing arts.

Working with the voice is a never-ending quest. It calls for a continuous renewal of inspiration, which is especially the case with everyday work using our usual methods, paths and expectations. The goal of this intensive programme is to deepen our research working from the assumption that all resources are located within us: we are the source of the sound with our bodies being a part of the physical phenomenon of sound.

We want to create conditions in which we can observe the natural potential of the voice and fully recognise its physical, tangible character. We want to discover the voice that arises in the body and observe its qualities as it leaves the body, examining sounds both in harmony and in relation to silence.

We want to discover and develop instincts that exist before the intellect and expectations, which serve as a foundation for our vocal work; to go beyond formulas and beyond whatever we think we know; to immerse ourselves in the sound and to push boundaries, believing in the purely physical potential of the sound and in boundless imagination.

The focus of our work will be on:
– relaxation techniques ‒ we will open our voices through relieving tension and we will activate our resonators;
– microtones, bringing the most from each harmony;
– communication through vibration and our natural musical instincts;
– building our improvisational skills together through a conscious search for harmony in consonance and dissonance alike;
– searching for the individual character of your voice vs. voice as a part of a whole;
– recordings: we want to gain an objective insight into our voice work, to compare the inside and outside perspectives;
– polyphonic music, using the natural scales of Georgian polyphony;
– electronic music, confronting various harmonic environments with our voices.

The session will culminate in a professional recording session during which we will record the results of our work.
